Short Impressions: Space Dandy, D-Frag!, and Mahou Sensou

Damn! Being one man army is tough! With part time jobs and stuff I had to schedule my time accordingly…Finally caught up with these anime. This is what I have to say:

Space Dandy

Synopsis:

Space Dandy is a dandy in space! This dreamy adventurer with a to-die-for pompadour travels across the galaxy in search of aliens no one has ever laid eyes on. Each new species he discovers earns him a hefty reward, but this dandy has to be quick on his feet because it’s first come, first served! Accompanied by his sidekicks, a rundown robot named QT and Meow the cat-looking space alien, Dandy bravely explores unknown worlds inhabited by a variety of aliens. Join the best dressed alien hunter in all of space and time as he embarks on an adventure that ends at the edge of the universe! (Bandai Visuals)

Genre: Comedy, Sci-Fi, Space

OP: Damn! Those beats…

Story: Not bad! Dandy is a wild character…We start off with dandy’s explanation of why booties are superior to boobs, but right after that Dandy goes to breastaurants…where he enjoys tits again. The anime did lack the comedic dialogues I was hoping for, but it did have quite a few physical comedy (comedies expressed by body movements). Even though it lacked comedy, I would be lying through my teeth if I say this anime is not entertaining. Dandy’s action filled adventure, his unusual friend robot, and other strange alien characters keeps this show fresh!

Art/Sound: Art seems like hand drawn style. Some what like One Piece…maybe? Rather than smooth looking finishes of the character, you can see pointy curves…which is not a bad thing because I personally think this anime suits that kind of art style. The sound matches the character, so no complains!

ED: Funny shit!

Directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, the same guy who directed Cowboy Bebop (an all time famous anime), this anime is in good hands. Will be watching this series!

D-Frag!

Synopsis:

Kazama Kenji likes to believe he is something of a delinquent. Moreover, others seem to like to agree that he is. Of course, Kenji’s gang finds their way to a group of four not-so-normal girls—Chitose, Sakura, Minami and Roka—and all at once, whatever reputation he may have is nothing compared to the outrageous behavior of the girls. Shanghaied into joining their club, what will happen to his everyday life from that point on? (MU)

Genre: Comedy, School, Seinen

Story: We have this main character named Kenji, a school-rumored delinquent, but in reality is a kind hearted character who thinks deeply about other people. This show is really hilarious, and I laughed a lot while watching it. All the character have their own charm so no one feels left out. All the characters are brought up in different comedic scenes, and their role fits perfectly. So basically in the first episode Kenji ends up joining ‘almost disbanded’ game development club, and now we will be looking at how story unfolds of this slice of school club life comedy.

Art/Sound: Everything is balanced! No complains…But I didn’t enjoy the ending song that much.

So far I am loving this anime. Will follow this show! If you are looking for a comedic slice of school life from winter 2014 line up, you won’t regret watching this.

Mahou Sensou

Synopsis:

In this modern magic action story, Takeshi Nanase is an ordinary high school boy who has a somewhat dark past. Due to certain circumstances, he formed a “fake” couple with his childhood friend Kurumi Isoshima, but otherwise, he lives a normal life. However, one day, he comes across a girl named Mui Aiba, in a uniform he has never seen before, collapsed on the school campus. This encounters changes Takeshi’s destiny completely. Mui tells Takeshi that she is a magician, and she apologizes, for she turned Takeshi into a magician, too. What Takeshi once knew as one world is actually two—the world where magicians live and the world where humans live. (ANN)

Genre: Action, Fantasy, Magic

Story: Our main character, Takeshi, accidentally gets turned into magician along with his friends. Before this incident he was just an ordinary high school boy, but now he has to bear the responsibility of this new power that he holds. Same goes for the other character  (Ida Kazumi,  and Isoshima, Kurumi) who become magician like Takeshi. Takeshi gets the power to read other people movements, Kazumi bears the power of fire, and Kurumi can transform…well she did make her tits bigger in the first episode (fan service much?).

Similarly Takeshi family background is a mystery. He tells us that he wants to get out of his house as soon as possible…this way the anime is trying to bring out the suspense plot I guess. Nevertheless, the anime lacks conceptual originality. We have all seen these kinds of anime where the main characters get dragged into this magic world and now have to fight alongside with the one who dragged them.  Anyhow, at this stage all the characters have gotten their power, and have migrated to the magic world. From what I can see, their next step will be to learn how to use their power and then comes the battle scenes.  I usually hate predictable anime, but for this one I want to know the mystery behind Takeshi family is. Plus, the ending was something you can call cliff hanger. You might be probably thinking that the magic world is full of colorful rainbows, chocolate river, white bunnies hopping in the grassland or something like that…but No!…This magic world looks like a nightmare…totally destructed. You might even call it a battlefield.  Due to that scene, I want to know how magic world ended up like that. Those were some of the reasons why I might be continuing with the series.

The art is OK!, but there were moments where they were pretty bland. Plus, I would have preferred the character to look little more mature, but that might just be my obsession with Fairy Tail.  On the other hand, I have no issues with the voice over department.

So yeah! That pretty much sums up this anime.

What are your thoughts on these anime? Let me know!

Cheers!
